ROXAS CITY, Dec. 18 –- The municipality of Jamindan, Capiz is one of the recipients of a bonus package of social services projects from the government through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
Jamindan Community Development Information Officer Norma Chavez said the “Makamasang Tugon” extension project is an offshoot of the KALAHI-CIDSS-KKB Program which had the municipality as one of its beneficiaries before.
KALAHI-CIDSS-KKB stands for Kapit Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services-Kapangyarihan at Kaunlaran sa Barangay.
The municipality headed by Mayor Ethel R. Jinon stands to receive P15 million worth of projects from the new social service project. “It’s a blessing,” Chavez said.
The extension project is covered by a memorandum of agreement signed by the provincial government of Capiz, municipal government and Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office.
Chavez said the project is funded by the World Bank (WB) with national and local government counterpart and its goal is to encourage the participation of the community, accountability of the leaders in governance, and transparency in project implementation.
Likewise, this is also to harmonize the town’s comprehensive development plan and the municipal pilot initiative proposal which was formulated as a guide in the implementation of Makamasang Tugon projects.
Mayor Jinon did not have any second thoughts about accepting the project as it jives with her governance thrusts towards poverty alleviation, which is the ultimate goal of Makamasang Tugon.
Municipal Coordinating Teams from the eight pilot municipalities of the new project recently gathered in Iloilo City for an orientation seminar on its implementation.
The municipality has availed various social services and infrastructure projects under the KALAHI-CIDSS-KKB Project. Launched in 2003, KALAHI-CIDSS covers the poorest municipalities in 42 poorest provinces.
It aims to reduce poverty by empowering communities and improving local governance. (PNA)
